CURLY CURTAIN MULLET:  Line Technique, The Switch Low-Mid Taper

Creating the Initial Sections

To begin, create a radial section and divide the head into two panels. Using a squared line technique on the sides to establish the desired length. For the model’s slightly wavy hair, match the length to the tip of his nose so the hair will react and curl up slightly to sit just above this initial point. By considering the model’s specific features and using reference points on the head, you can preserve symmetry and maintain consistency in the haircut. Once the initial line is established, use horizontal sections to over-direct each new section into the previous one, building up weight as you go.

Shaping the Back Panel

Next, move to the back panel where we kick in the switch. Establish a vertical profile section and use a square layer from the area above the occipital bone. When you reach the bottom, switch to a sliding technique to preserve length and create a loose connection to the nape. Preserving length in this area is crucial for maintaining volume and allowing the hair to retain its natural wave. Over-direct each new vertical section into the previous one to maintain this effect.

Tapering and Blending

Allow the hair to dry naturally, then brush it back and begin tapering by debulking with a 1.5 guard up to the top of the ear. Create a skin line in the middle of the ear, curving it to preserve the darkness of the edges for a stronger line-up. Fade using the 1.5 guard, 1 guard, 0.5 guard, and no guard, working through the lever to blend the hair. Always remove the 0.5 line last to ensure the skin line is invisible and the blend is seamless. Use a razor for a sharper finish.

Final Styling

Finally, add moisture to the hair where needed, use a diffuser to set in the curls, and this completes the curly curtain mullet.
